Welcome!
ABREN is an affiliated institution to the Global Waste to Energy Research and Technology Council (GWC), a prominent technology and research institution that operates in several countries, headquartered in New York City, United States, with the objective of promoting the best practices of integrated and sustainable waste management through its energy recovery, known as Waste-to-Energy (WtE).
In order to identify differently the research and technology work of the Waste to Energy Research and Technology Council - WtERT Brazil, ABREN's Internal Regulations provide for the institution called "WtERT Brazil", consisting of an independent academic core, headed by a coordinator, all with a view to developing research and technology, according to best practices in the production of scientific work and the development of public sector policies.
WtERT Brazil works on the themes of solid waste energy recovery, recycling and reverse logistics in Brazil, with the assumption of (i) bringing academic research to practical application, (ii) strengthening relations between universities, companies and national institutions and other countries and (iii) producing and promoting scientific content on ABREN's focus topics. (i) levar a pesquisa acadêmica à aplicação prática, (ii) estreitar as relações entre universidades, empresas e instituições nacionais e de outros países e (iii) produzir e promover conteúdo científico sobre os temas foco da ABREN.
The objective of WtERT Brazil is the approximation and sharing of experiences, technologies, innovation and research between the Academic environment and the companies associated to ABREN. This academic nucleus is focused on academic discussion, with possibilities of forming specific technical groups, with a view to strengthening the relationship between the Company, Universities and Research Centers on the themes of Waste Energy Recovery, Circular Economy, Reverse Logistics and Recycling.
WtERT Brazil brings together engineers, scientists and managers from universities and industries, with the mission of identifying and advancing the best available technologies for the recovery of energy or fuel from municipal solid waste and other industrial, hospital and agroforestry waste.
The mission of the members is to identify the best available technologies for the treatment of various wastes, conduct academic research and disseminate information through publications, the various GWC web pages and periodic meetings.
WtERT Brazil members should seek to increase energy and solid waste material recovery through recycling, anaerobic biodigestion, Waste-to-Energy (WtE) and landfill with biogas capture for electricity generation. The guiding principle is that responsible waste management should be based on science and the best available technology at a specific location, not on what seems cheap now but can cost a lot in the future.
Among the members of WtERT Brazil, some are part of the expert group because of the high level of knowledge on the issues developed by the Nucleus. The other members will be eligible as long as they present publications or academic theses that prove the necessary requirements. WtERT Brazil will be governed by ABREN's Internal Regulations, ABREN's Code of Ethics and the WtERT Brazil Strategic Plan.
The resources considered unserviceable in a large part of the country are actually valuable and can be used in the production of clean and renewable energy, which is already done in the vast majority of developed and emerging countries.
